Why Pick Wood Computer Desk?
In the market for something to put your computer on? A wood computer desk may be just what you're looking for.
Let's face it, wood just has a different look and feel to it than steel, plastic or glass. It looks more natural and right at home in a classic study or office.
Three Selection Groups
Your wood computer desk will usually be available in three general selection groups. These groups are student, home and office styles.
As the name implies, student workstations are for children and teenagers. They tend to be compact, easy to use and without decorative elements like the home styles. You may not want to give your children an expensive desk and then have them spill softdrinks or ketchup on it. A simple and functional desk is all they really need for their personal computer or laptop.
Home style wood computer desks can blend in with other wooden furniture you may have in your house such as chairs, tables or bookshelves. Wood does not look and feel as cool or cold as metal and glass furniture. It tends to be warmer to the touch.
The Difference Among Wood Computer Desks
The difference between using a wooden kitchen table or a wood computer desk is the storage space. If you use a normal table, you end up having to put the PC case on the work surface or the floor. Computer furniture often have a special space where you can put your PC case. It also has drawers or a hutch for storing additional items.
Different configurations of wood computer desks include workstations, wheelchair compatible workstations, corner units and L-shaped work areas. There are a few different woods and finishes to choose from. Pine, maple, oak and teak are often used. The wood can also be stained with dyes and pigments to achieve a darker finish.
Wood Computer Desk - Conclusion
Popular stain finishes include cherry, espresso and ebony. White desks are usually painted with a solid colour which covers up the natural grain and look of the wood. Keep in mind that the cheaper wood computer desks may actually be made of chipboard and the surfaces covered with a thin wooden skin of real wood.
A wood computer desk is a solid choice, but beware of cheap manufacturing. An oak desk is always highly recommended for its timeless beauty and durability, and you definitely won't regret investing in one.
